About me

Hi!  My name is Huihong Hao. I am a college counselor and a Chinese teacher.

I hold a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on developmental psychology from Harvard University. I've taught Chinese language and advised students for over a decade at prestigious prep schools such as The Lawrenceville School in NJ, BB&N in MA, and the Riverdale Country School in NYC. I’ve also taught Chinese language, Asian Studies, and persuasive writing at the college level. See my professional profile on  LinkedIn.

My passion in college counseling began more than 10 years ago when my daughter started applying to colleges. After years of watching her blossom into a young adult, I grew fascinated by the process of distilling her purposes, values, passions, and strengths into a compelling essay that could elevate her applications. My daughter was eventually accepted into MIT.

Since then, I have offered college counseling to my community on top of my teaching job. The students I've worked with have been accepted to Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Chicago, Caltech, Brown, Duke, Cornell, CMU, UCLA, UCBerkeley, Michigan, UVA, and more. You can read the endorsements from the students and parents I’ve worked with on my testimonial page or on LinkedIn.

The pandemic and rapid adoption of video conferencing technologies inspired me to offer my expertise to more people beyond my community. I am most passionate about supporting students from public schools or from immigrant families to fulfill their college dreams. Students at public schools receive far less support than their counterparts at private schools. Students from immigrant families are even more disadvantaged as they often don't have parents who have gone through the American college system, not to mention the communication barriers that can exist between immigrant parents and their children.

I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you and your family through this demanding yet rewarding process.
