I have taught Chinese language for 15 years at prestigious schools such as the Peddie School, The Lawrenceville School, and Riverdale Country School. I have worked with students of all ages from elementary school students to college students to professionals, and taught at all levels from Introduction to Chinese to AP Chinese to Advanced Reading.
I am particularly passionate about teaching beginners and helping them lay a strong foundation in pronunciation, characters, and basic grammar. I also help them grow an interest in and understanding of Chinese culture. It gives me such joy and satisfaction to witness students grow into fluent speakers from struggling to utter a simple phrase.
I take a systematic approach to teaching and learning. For example, I carefully follow pathways to skill development and meticulously design every lesson to ensure step by step skill building. I also apply interweaving and distributed practices to help students acquire new vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns. My students excel in their pronunciation, tones and grasp of Chinese grammar.
In addition, I incorporate news, movies, and documentaries into my teaching. Through in-depth discussions on interesting people and current events, I hope to not only help my students cultivate cultural empathy but also foster their intellectual development.

In-depth learning of Chinese culture
The reward of learning a language comes not just from mastering new vocabulary but accessing a new culture. We will learn Chinese cuisine, music, and mind and body practice. We will also have in-depth discussions about movies and documentaries.
An understanding of current affairs
A global citizen starts with cultural empathy. As China’s presence increasingly grows in the news, we will discuss the historical and cultural context of major events and learn how Chinese readers view the same events.
